The Atrium of the Muses an exterior atrium space, serves as a natural open-air extension to the Megaron’s interior. The Welcome Reception is open to all registered delegates and accompanying persons. It will be an excellent opportunity to network and mingle with exhibitors, meet up with old friends and colleagues, and to make new ones.

The Byzantine & Christian Museum is located at the heart of the city center and at a walking distance from the ESB 2017 venue and most official Conference hotels. There will be no bus service from/to the venue however there will be professional staff available to escort the participants on foot from the Conference venue.

Meeting point for the walking to Byzantine & Christian Museum will be on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 19.30 at the main entrance of the  Megaron Athens International Conference Centre.

The Athens Byzantine and Christian Museum lies half-hidden among trees. It is one of the most important public institutions in Greece, established in the early 20th century (1914) in order to collect, study, preserve and exhibit the Byzantine and Post-Byzantine cultural heritage in the Hellenic territory. The museum collection contains an important number (approximately 30.000) of works of art such as icons, sculptures, ceramics, ecclesiastical textiles, paintings, jewelries and architectural elements (wall paintings and mosaics). The permanent exhibition is divided in two main parts: The first is devoted to Byzantium (4th– 15th c. AD) and contains 1.200 artifacts, and the second entitled “From Byzantium to the modern era” presents 1.500 artworks dating from the 15th to 20th century.

A performance by the renowned pianist Dimitris Kalantzis and his group, who are considered as the most prominent figures of jazz, is expected to be the highlight of this evening.

Note that the museum will not be operating during the event's hours, therefore there will be no tour of the exhibits offered. Delegates who wish to visit it should be there on their own during its working hours (08:00-20:00). The ticket for visiting the exhibits costs 8 Euro.

Guided Tour to Acropolis Museum & Chair Dinner

The evening will start with a perfect tour to the Acropolis Museum where some of the most important artifacts of Greek antiquity are displayed! The Acropolis Museum is the definite must for everybody visiting the city. The Acropolis Museum was designed by Swiss architect Bernard Tschumi in co-operation with the Greek architect Michalis Photiadis. Its unique design has incorporated the excavations which are visible under stunning glass floors!

The Acropolis masterpieces are marked out and given the prominence they deserve through the ideal interior atmosphere conditions, the natural lighting, as well as easy visitor access, panoramic views and excellent layout of the exhibition areas. It exhibits about 4,000 artifacts.

After visiting Acropolis Museum, get ready for a delicious dinner Dionysos  Zonar's located in a prominent position on the outskirts of the Acropolis. Having a panoramic view of the sacred rock of the Acropolis and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus (Herodion), it combines a prime location with stylish renovated space and the high quality of Greek modern cuisine.

Transportation: Buses will depart from the main entrance of MAICC at 18.30. After the guided tour at the Acropolis Museum, the professional staff of the ESB Organizing Secretariat will escort the group to Dionysos Zonar’s. Buses will depart from Dionysos Zonar’s at approximately 23:00 with drop off at the official conference hotels and the MAICC.

YSF Social Event

After a day at ESB 2017 filled with the scientific sessions, the YSF Social Event offers a great opportunity to relax and mingle with friends and colleagues from around the world against the backdrop of the magnificent Eleftheria Park, an oasis in the center of Athens. The Eleftheria Park Restaunt is only a stone’s throw away from the ESB 2017 venue however it creates the impression that you are far from the city center.

Conference Gala Dinner

Tickets: 85€ per person (a limited number of tickets will be available at the Registration Desk on a first-come, first-served basis)

Τhe social highlight of this year’s event will be the Gala Dinner at Ble Azure. Ble Azure is a magical venue only a breath away from the city center, clocked by a sea of blue. The Ble Azure peninsula offers a unique sunset view, exposed to the sweet evening breeze, under the full moon. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy Greek specialties and a unique live performance by a traditional dancing group.

Transportation: Buses will depart from the main entrance of MAICC and the main official conference hotels between 19:15-19:30. Departure from Ble Azure will be approximately between 23:00-00:30. A detailed bus transfers schedule for the Gala Dinner will be announced soon.
